Ok, my brother has a 94 MTX that runs really good, BUT, the butterflies are stuck open at all times. When I start it up they do NOT close like they should, they just stay open. But It still gets 28+ mpg and will still kick the crap out of my 93 ATX so its not exactly running like crap because of it. I do think that the low end isn't up to par though because of it (duh) but anyway, how do you fix it?...is it vacum hoses or something else? "yamahasho" suggested vacum hoses which is a very good idea but I didn't want to tear into it till I get some more suggestions. headbang

You don't need to "tear into it" to check the vacuum hoses. They are all easily accessible. Make sure all the hoses are connected and in good shape (not cracked) and also examine the vacuum resevoir. A vacuum pump with a gauge would be a useful tool (also handy for one person brake bleeds and vacuum testing in general)

I just went through the same thing with my 95 MTX last night(I'm new to the world of SHO and I didn't know it wasn't doing what it was supposed to until yesterday). Anyway, while checking all of the vacuum lines, I ran across a HUGE hole in the front line about an inch before the T-joint. I turned the car on, stuck my finger over the hole and ******, they closed. I made the unfortunate mistake of firt trying to check the canister, and solenoid first which was a pain in the ass to get too, considering the fact that the engine was still hot, when if i had just tugged at the lines, I would have saved my self a good amount of swearing.
