The gray coating/paint on the bottom of the back bumper on my 2010 SHO is starting to crack and peel badly. Has anyone else seen this happen? The gray trim under the doors appears to be textured gray colored plastic but the trim on the bottom of the bumper is apparently painted with textured paint to match. Does anyone have any idea what the OEM paint/coating is? I have included some pictures below. Thanks!

I'd suspect that that paint was applied by a body shop rather than something from factory. I wonder if your car has had the bumper cover replaced at some point in its history. Are you the original owner?

I am the second owner, so it is a possibility that the original bumper cover was replaced for some reason.

OEM plastic is molded / injected from the factory.

I know, because I had all of my textured plastic pieces sanded, blocked, primed, and painted gloss black

The image you posted shows me that there was some type of repair performed to that piece and that repair is now failing.

An OEM piece would NOT do what you are now seeing.

I would inspect for further repair work and/or damage if I was you.

Repair or someone had nudged into your car. Doesn't take much to crack that.

Thanks everyone for your input! That's what I suspected as well. It looks like I can get the rear bumper cover lower extension by itself - Part# 17F828. Is that the correct part? It appears that it is a separate piece from the rest of the bumper cover, but does anyone know if that piece will come off easily by itself, or will I have to remove the entire bumper cover to get it apart? Also, will the replacement piece need to be painted? The ford parts catalog says it is black but I would prefer to order one that is already injection molded with the correct matching gray color like the rest of the trim. Thanks again!

The piece comes as the correct color. I purchased the piece a while back, you should be able to remove from rear bumper without removing whole bumper assembly. But since I have not done mine yet, BPD will be your best source to answer this question as he removed all his lower trim for painting.
