Hey guys,
I have a '92 SHO with 122,000 miles. About 700 miles ago my tach went, at first it was jumping around but then it just died. My mechanic got another one with almost the exact same miles I had. He checked for voltage everything was fine, put it in and it still doesnt work, but it does jump around some times. He then changed the AVS Module(or something like that, I'll get the exact name later)but still nothing.

Does anyone know what going on?

Thanks!

The signal that powers the tachometer are sourced from the CID sensor and CPS. Those signals are processed by the DIS module and routed to the dash panel. If you check the EEC codes and don't get a CID or PIP (CPS) error then the DIS module or an electrical connector between that module and the dash are suspect.

You can always get an aftermarket one. I have an Autometer 3 3/4 inch tach with a built in shiftlight sitting right in front of the stock Tach. The stock tach is not very good anyways....

Not very good? What's wrong with it? I would like to have a shift light to tell me when to shift for maximum fuel economy. When it comes to performance, I think I can handle when to shift. The launching part is where I have trouble. I get all excited, smoke my tire and it's over against anything respectable.

install an aftermarket one(Autometer or something quality) and you will see how the stock one is always about 250+ RPM faster. At Idle my car would read 1100 rpm. with the Autometer it reads about 900.
