This just turned out to be a huge deal. I got replacement studs all was going well had the top one in solid and move down the bottom one and im getting the stud screwed in and all of a sudden I feel somthing drop into my hand. headbang  ! Half the metal threading on the water outlet side just cracked right off. So it looks like im going fishing to pull out the whole water outlet. Any Idea what I need? It looks like in the manual that the part that the studs are on goes onto the cooling pipe between the heads. Do i have to replace that whole cooling pipe and everything or can I just replace everything after that pipe between the heads?

Just a little info for you: When you are installing something like a thermostat housing one should always install all bolts evenly as not to put to much stress on one bolt ear. What I am guessing is you bolted the top bolt down tight and then put the bottom bolt in and started to tight and then snapo.

LOl, nope it broke it self while I was driving most likely because I had it torqued down to hard. But anyways i'm really screwed now and need that water outlet so I can get this thing fixed.

You will need to find someone parting out an engine as I did. You will also need the two gaskets that seal the outlets to both heads. Probably special order from a Ford dealer. You will not be likely to located a replacement outlet new in stock at a price you will want to pay.

If you look at the picture I previously posted, you can clearly see the bolt holes that mount the outlets (two, connected by a short hose) to the heads. I would not even try to replace just the outlet that the thermostat mounts to, that short length of hose is unlikely to come apart while the outlets are attached to their respective heads.

I got lucky and bought a used assembly from Nunnelly and he threw in a set of gaskets (Thanks, Mark!).

Good luck, man. your job just got harder. BTDT. Wife almost pushed my car into the street over that one.

Could you post the pictures and show which holes etc your are talking about? I want to replace the minimum possible, from what you said it sounds like the whole piping from water pump to t-stat?
