I was looking through my daily watch list of SHO's on e-bay and came across this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2498035829

This car has motor problems and from what we were told its very common for the SHOs to break cam shafts and thats what we feel happened to this car. We were also told this is not a hard fix. Sometimes you can replace the cam shaft or worse case you must replace the head. All parts are easily available and not that expensive.

Did I miss a post where gen III parts became cheap and if the cam breaks loose, all you need to do is replace the cam? I always thought that if the cam goes, thats it, new motor, sense it IS an interference motor.

You are absolutely correct. The SHO V8 is an interference engine. A failed cam will cause the pistons and valves to collide, resulting in a toasted motor.
"All parts are easily available and not that expensive." <---- That is a damned lie.

Looks nice, buy it for 1K and take the engine out. Bore it and have custom pistons and rods made, fix the cams and add a blower! shouldn't cost too much :thumb:

Most of the time the motor can be saved unless there is a chunk of valve stuck in the piston. Scott K I beleive had a valve head in his piston at a 90 degree angle. It was quite interesting. :)

Nonetheless, usually you just replace the head on the side that failed.
