I thought I had a bad alternator on my 1990, but it turns out it is just that the lower connector is broken.

The only remedy turned up in a search involved torches and flux and other stuff that I really don't want to mess with.

Is there a simple connector that can be purchased somewhere, so I can just cut the remnants of the old one off, and splice in a new one? Will that work, or do I have to find one that is part of an old wiring harness somewhere?

Thanks.

Guess I'll answer my own question. I cut the old connector off, and just spliced in a regular eyelet connector of the proper size. It seems to work fine.

The rubber boot that covers up the connection was rotten, and broke into several pieces. Is it something that is needed to protect the connection from weather? Or is it ok to just leave it open?

Napa has solid copper eyelets that you put the wire in and crimp the crap out of it.

Thanks. I will pick one up and do it right. The one I used is just a generic one I had laying around for regular home electrical stuff.

The one you used will probably work for a while. The electric load thru might start to make it corrode after a few months or so.
