I had a rear cam tensioner fail (was competely slack when I opened up valve cover) and I noticed flecks of brass in intake runners behind valves. Did I destroy my valve guides or can I put new tensioner on and it will be ok.

What makes you think it is brass ?

What is physically damaged ?

- tensioner chain

- tensioner pad only

- underside of valve cover

- steel tensioner pad under the phenolic pad

- other item(s)

The t piece that holds the tension so the chain was hanging slack. The chain did
not break. The pieces are brass colored, I don't know if they are brass. The metal pieces (almost like dusting but a little bigger) are were the intake runners connect to the head and the seem to be in only three of the six ports.

But you still didn't answer the question:

Whatever you found inside the heads and runners had to come from somewhere/something. In order for there to be "filings", the tensioner chain had to come into contact with "something", which it chewed-up/chewed-into in producing the filings. Find what was physically damaged by the tensioner failure, and most likely it is the source of the "filings" - if that's what they are.
