I am about 2000 grand into the mocha 91+ including purchase price, and all I have left is paint and this annoying brake issue. Before I start dumping money into this problem, I thought I would give the SHOforum gods a chance to help me out.

When pressing on the brakes after the car has been driven a while, the brake peddle will not return all the way back to its normal position. It happens quicker when it is warm outside, and I have to pull up on the peddle with my toe to get the brakes to release. They will disengage most of the way, but will "stick" lightly unless I do this. I need to fix this last mechanical issue before I get her painted, and I am not sure where to start. Master cylinder? Is there some spring or something under the dash that can wear out?

It sounds to me like the Master Cylinder, I had this happen in my buddies BMW a year or so ago. But then again it could be something simple as the switch becoming stuck when releasing the pedal. I would get that addressed ASAP.

If it weren't for a handbrake and the car being a 5-speed and being able to downshift. I would have plowed right into the back of a minivan.

I think there is a spring somewhere in there that gets weak. Others have used a helper spring attached to the pedal itself. Otherwise I think the MC needs to come out.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I can pick one up from Al Fitz pretty cheap and just rebuild it. Hopefully, that will fix it.

Thats what I meant by the "switch", but yes yours sounds more accurate in "spring."

Thats the word I was looking for! :thumb:
