My 92 MTX brake pedal isn't coming out all the way keeping some of the brake engage when I let out.

Brake spring?

Thanks,

Hi folks,

I just came into owning a '93 SHO and i'm collecting all the info I can about the car and will start to address certain things that need to be worked on.

Since i found this thread, one of the issues is Brake Pedal return lags sometimes. Brake pedal needs my toe to help bring it back up about 1/4-1/2 inch while driving. My question is, is there a spring or something connected to the pedal that maybe have worn out, or does the problem go out to the brakes themselves?

Have not pulled the tires off yet for check, but back breaks start to squeal lightly, new pad time. But again i don't know if that would have anything to do with the Pedal not returning all the way up.

Thanks,

Dustin

Thanks,

I had that issue on a 92 LX with 4 wheel disc, turned out to be the booster. I would have to lift the pedal slightly after a long ( 4+second ) soft application of the brakes.

I have heard (but not done) a simple fix of adding a "helper" spring to the pedal inside the car. Find a good place to attach it to something sturdy up under the dash and maybe drill a tiny hole in the brake pedal arm to hook it if you have to (though that might not be the best thing to do if it weakens the brake pedal arm). You probably need to fiddle with a few springs from the hardware store to find one not too strong or weak. The Car Talk guys wrote about this one in their column. Cheap and easy fix for an old car.
