ok, after completing a CPS sensor fix and water pump replacement, I've been driving the car around when I noticed that my brakelights are gone. The lights ome on when the headlights are on, but when I step on the brake, the brakelights dont turn on. At first I thought it was that the high mount bulb was gone but when I realized that none of them were coming on, I ruled that out.
So..... the brake switch is new. Only maybe 8 or 9 months old. To test, I took disconnected the sensors plug and connected the terminals of the plug with a piece of wire to complete the circuit. Nothing. The brakelight fuse is good and the bulbs are good. On a side note, my side marker lights dont come on neither and my multifunction switch has been heating up again and giving off the burnt cable smell. I havent gotten a chance to install the headlight relay harness yet. Might the burning switch have something to the do with all the lights that arent coming on?
Any help would be greatly appriciated. (its winter and we just had a snow storm in NYC. I need all the lights I can get) Thanks

BOO= brake on/off switch. It is located right under the brake pedal. This is what activates your brake lights and I believe also de-activates your cruise control.

It it a little switch right under the brake pedal with 2 wires coming out of it. Very cheap at a local auto parts store I do believe.

I had a problem with my brake lights when i bought my 93'. i went to napa and picked up a new BOO switch and they still didnt work. so i cutoff the stock connector that is supposed to connect onto the switch and put 2 wire connectors on the end and connected them. and...WALLAHHH, it worked perfect. it turned out not to be the BOO switch, it was the connector that plugged into the BOO switch! goodluck :thumb:

I always keep dielectric grease handy for wierd bugs like this. Even used it to fix my microwave!

Fuse F1 supplies the brake lights including the 3rd stoplamp. Check for power at it. If none, suspect an open fuse link E at the starter relay. However, if the engine starts and runs, the fuse link is intact and the open circuit is "downstream".

If it is good, you really need to use either a test lamp or a meter to check for voltage at the BOO switch LG/R wire. It should be hot at all times. The R/LG wire should be hot only when the switch is engaged.

The switched brake light power then goes two relevent places: directly to the 3rd stop lamp and to the MFS for the regular brake lights and rear turn signals.

Im going to start at the MFS for the reason that it has been heating up and smelling burnt again. The switch is relatively new but its been smelling a little burnt for a while. Also, if there is something wrong with the MFS, would that also cause the side marker lights to not turn on?

I have been wanting to install headlight relay harnesses but have not been able to get my hands on them. Any suggestions?

Since your 3rd brake light doesn't work, start THERE.

If there is no power going to the MFS, it obviously has nothing to do...

Ok, so I checked the third brakelight. Nothing. The bulbs are good, the wiring is intact. What else could it possibly be????
