James,

When do you foresee a prototype formed to get a pic? I'm leaning toward a cowl hood from the supplier from Cincy but I could put it off if something interesting or a cheaper alternative is around the corner.

I haven't seen anything here that catches my eye although some lines would be nice. Maybe check out some of the Mustang and Chevy mags for a variety of aftermarket producer's styling cues.

Damn I didn't know so many people wanted hoods... I really should start making the one I designed! I'm pretty sure ya'll would go for that one, it should only cost around 300 - 350 (unless I use the old hood, then it would be much cheaper)

Post some pics Levand16! I wanna see! So far the only one I really like is the one over the airbox, but possibly a little bigger. I agree with crizzasho though about the STI scoop. That thing is just monstrous! :D

Now THIS I would be seriously interested in. However, what about rain and the such. I'd imagine the last thing you'd want is water in your air intake.

Maybe you can design a "plug" for it..to make it non functional... wouldnt be hard.. Just something to cover the intake hole!

Thanks

Thanks All,

Thankyou so much. I just got done with a 2' cowl mold.( I can't stand fibreglass in my hands)

Any hood that I make would be in fibreglass as I'm still in highschool and have very little time, however...My robotics project is going to be in aluminum and cf. So a CF hood isn't too far off. However I just don't like the RICE look on a SHO.

I was just thinking..something like two portholes like the 94-98 mustangs. I'm going to attempt a mach 1 hood God Help Me.... something like this

bfh403.jpg

I can't figure out how to keep the water out...so I'm thinking untill that gets worked out it will be non-functional

Thanks again,

Now that I really like. How long to get a prototype of this?
Also how about a removable plug for the vents?
One last question. These will be reinforced enough to use hood struts and the oem hood latch right?

Im a big fan of the small scoop over the air box as in the pic of the red SHO. Very interested in that design. Would think of a prchcase if you could use my hood that i have now to save money.

Not so much water but SNOW. I'm in Utah. I think a new hood would be GREAT. I will keep watching this thread and putting i nmy two cents. I would prefer the one over the airbox personnaly. I think it just looks better on the SHO especialy if you can figure a way to put it onto the existing hood.

Here's a nice looking hood:

And here's one with a late 90's Firebird hood molded into the factory SHO hood, unfinished ofcourse.

I would love to see maybe a wider cowl hood or something that just feeds air to the airbox, but what I would apy more money for is a front bumber that would get more air to the radiator.
As far as not makeing the them functional, I think just building them so that you are getting cool air in and letting hot air out of the engine compartment would be better than feeding the airbox.

Check out some concept sketches that I did:

I don't have a real site yet, so you'll have to click on the "Taurus SHO" folder. I've got an older drawing, followed by a newer, more accurate drawing of aero kit ideas (as well as other drawings etc). The hoods are just cowl hoods though wink

someone photochopped an audi S4 front bumper cover on a gen 1 awhile ago. it was probably a year or more, so i don't know if someone's willing to find that post.

if you're looking for Ram Air---i'd say just use the factory airbox and make a naca duct in the hood....with a cowl to release some of the hot air underhood.
