I was drive home today and all of a sudden the power to my radio went dead, as well as the in dash clock , all interior lights (overhead console, glovebox, footwells, and door. Dash and window switch lights still work though), power locks, and keyless entry also doesn't work anymore.

Also when I press the power lock switch on the inside of the doors the headlights come on
The EATC also feels kinda hot too, but I'm not sure if it's supposed to be like that, I've never really checked before.

Any ideas? Nothing seems to be melting when I pulled over to look. It sounds like a fuse, but the pressing the power lock button turning on the headlights confused me a bit.

I didn't get a chance to check the fuses yet because it's dark out and I have no lights, will check tomorrow though.

Actually, a blown fuse is only the window to the problem you may have. The headlights coming on with the lock switch may mean some wires are crossed, and possibly a short. A blown fuse means to much power is going through the circuit. A new fuse may fix it for awhile, but it's best to look around and make sure everything else is OK as well. Good luck getting rid of the wire graemlins!

Thats exactly what my dad said, but since I put in the new fuse everything work perfect again. The headlights don't come on when I press the power lock anymore.

Wher would I start to look for a short or something like that?

It would be quite a search, i'll tell you that. If you have a wiring diagram, just see where everything goes and where you may have a problem (like the headlight switch into the same thing as the power lock switch). Those electrical gremlins are impossible to find sometimes.... You just have to visually check wires, and also test them with an voltmeter and ohmeter. It would be good to have specifications for the stuff too. But if it's fixed with a new fuse and things are going good, then i wouldn't bother. If it blows again soon, then you may want to invest a little time into the situation. Good luck!

Hey guys, bumping a real old thread, but I'm in need of some help diagnosing the exact same problem as the original poster.

Driving around today and going 35, the radio, clock, power locks, and interior lights/chimes just go dead. #8 fuse was dead, so I grabbed a spare and popped it in, but it popped right away, so I must have a short somewhere, but I have no ideas where to start looking.

Thanks in advance.

My cousin just had a similar problem in his 95 a few weeks ago. He hit a bump and all the lights shut off, hit another and they all came back on. He parked the car and started looking around. He pulled the fuses and they were ok, but then one of them blew.

Long story short, he found that the plug for the reverse lights on the transmission had a worn area on it and it was grounding out on the trans. Taped it up and no more problems

This was on an MTX, FWIW.
