I remember reading a post awhile ago and hearing that someone used translucent black vinyl to black out their lights. A quick google search came up with this: http://www.signmakingsupplies.com/ezStore123/DTProductList.asp?p=2_1_1_0_0_0_37

do you think that would work? can anyone think of any disadvantages. i was thinking of the 15" by 10 yards. that would be more than enough for the head and tail lights right?

Why not just use covers? That way you can actually take them off when you need to see.

guess ill just get covers for the front and nite shades for the rear. does anyone know how the covers mount. prefer not to hack anything.

Edit: the covers on midwest sho are offered in "clear" and "smoked". now, are the "smoked" ones really black or what?

headlight covers

In north Florida ( clay and duval counties) they will stop you for this. Check your county laws. We tried them on a Gen II and found they totally darkened the headlights , to the point they were useless. Try it our eyes maybe bad though. Mike

I've got headlight and taillight covers. I leave the taillight covers on all the time and used to leave the headlight covers on all the time except for at night. But after buying my clear corners, I only use them for longer trips to protect my lights.

The rears attach with some heavy duty velcro and the fronts just snap over the headlight.

Also FWIW, GTS makes only headlight covers while Lund makes both head and taillight covers. And IMO, after having both brands of headlight covers, the Lund fit much better.

I've got pictures if you'd like to see. :thumb:

BTW, I just noticed you have a GenI(at least I think). All the info I gave was for a GenII. I don't think they make covers for the rears of the GenI.

The velcro has two sides, you stick one side on your taillight and the other side on the inside of the cover, and when pressed together the velcro holds them in place. When you take of the covers, one side of the velcro remains on the taillights.

More pictures can be seen on both of the sites listed in my sig. :)
