Been trying to find a set of factory SHO mirror covers to replace the chrome ones the previous owner put on the car. I’ve had zero luck finding black ones and come to the realization that I’m going to have to buy non painted ones and do it myself. I just can’t figure out what color of black the mirrors are supposed to be to order the paint. Anybody have any idea?

FWIW, mine are straight black...not metallic. If doing both, I'd suggest...and I don't have the code but it would be easy to obtain...using Ford's exterior straight black paint code.

It's not like they need to be blended, or match anything else....so 'd think any black would work and never be noticed as wrong etc.

That being said, Ford gives the secondary color codes for repair, but I don;t know if that includes mirrors. Perhaps a body shop can help. On my Excursion, I was able to get the code for the dark metallic grey cladding..which was available from Ford as touch-up paint.

Did the previous owner simply add the chrome caps, or swap the mirrors? Ford offers a chrome mirror cap accessory. That may be simply taped or clipped on. While I don;t know all your car's details..there's no shortage of SHO mirrors and caps on eBay.

They are the accessory caps but they replace the black ones. They don’t just cover up the factories. There are a few passenger side mirrors on eBay but no driver side I could find. 99 percent of the ones that say SHO just say that because they fit. They don’t have the painted caps. The unpainted OEM Ford black cap is 30 bucks. The cheapest actual SHO mirror is over 100 with most near 200 so it doesn’t make sense to buy the whole mirrors even if I could find them since I can get paint and clear coat for probably 50 bucks or so. I really want to be correct with the color. That’s why the chrome ones bug me so much. They’re not correct for the car. I’m a bit ****—I know. Lol

I know when I bought new fog light bezels they were different for the SHO. They were labeled as being "piano black" for the SHO. Which they are the same color black as the mirror caps...so you might be able to search that color name and find the paint code.
