Is it true that the x2j has no support in binary editor? Someone on eectuning recommended this to me because calcon won't install correctly for me on windows 7. So after getting it and looking through the strategies and not finding one for the x2j. I figured we weren't supported. Please tell me I didn't waste 80 bucks!

Edit! There's a guy who will reverse engineer this strategy to work but it will cost us money. Shal we start a group buy?

Have you tried contacting Mike Glover (the designer of the TwEECer hardware and software) about the problem with CalCon on Windows 7? He posts regularly to the TwEECer mailing list, so if you join and post a message there, he'll see it along with all the other knowledgeable people there. His direct e-mail is [email protected]. I know that there are lots of people running it just fine on Windows 7, although you have to jump through a couple hoops to get it installed properly.

Have you seen the newest update of the Install Guide? It specifically mentions Windows 7 stuff:
http://www.tweecer.com/dl/InstallGuide.pdf

On the other hand, I'm fairly sure that BE works with the X2J strategy just fine, although it may still be in a beta period. See here for more information:
http://www.shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=102933

Edit: From http://www.shonutperformance.com/TwEECer.htm:
"We also use and recommend the Binary Editor software – this software is used to read and write to the TwEECer and is more user-friendly and offers more features than the software included with the TwEECer. We will be offering support for the SHO shortly for BE. It is also VERY well worth the purchase price."

Windows 7 + 20 year old automotive technology = virtualPC + Windows95.

= PITA

Yes, the software is old (especially the Borland db stuff), but Mike has figured out how to make it work ~99% of the time on W7; no need for VirtualPC or anything like that.

Unless ShoAmo has already tried all of the tips in the PDF above and contacted Mike Glover with no relief... Then it's probably either VirtualPC or ditch CalCon (which is a good idea anyway, since it rather sucks IMO).

John you are the man! Wish I could thank you twice. I have heard that BE also changes tunes on the fly!

Hey, if that's what you enjoy doing, have at it. I'd rather just have the software work as intended. Should take far less than 22 minutes.

But this is all a moot point, at least as far as this thread goes, since it sounds like ShoAmo is more interested in BE than CalCon anyway (can you blame him?).

VMware FTW. That is all.

And, Jon, as an aside, the ford service manuals on CD do not work on anything above XP. They just won't install. I created a win98 VM just for running the CDs. Works like a champ.

DUDE! Last night me and drew were frustrated, i'm pretty knowledgable with computers and couldn't figure out what is wrong with CalCon. CalEdit works fine, but datalogging's a no-go. So this new updated section of the tweecer PDF on 7 will probably do the trick.

It always seemed to me that something was just restricting BE instead of it being an issue with the install or drivers. I don't have any driver issues anymore and have gotten the tweecer to work with 64bit versions of xp, vista and 7. This PDF should now get rid of the Datalogging problems.

I don't know if you've actually looked at the PDF yet, but make sure to look through it before proclaiming the next Messiah... It may be no help whatsoever.

If that's the case, and if you really want CalCon to work, shoot an e-mail to Mike Glover. He is a very cool (and smart) guy and he'll help you to the best of his ability to make it work.

Adam has been doing this for a little while now im not sure when the official support will start but to get calcon installed on win7 all you have to do is disable UAC and install as admin.

I'm telling you man, if you really want it to work, just shoot Mike Glover an e-mail ([email protected]). No sense having us guess as to what might be your problem when Mike can probably tell you in a couple back-and-forth e-mails exactly what to do to fix it.

Sweet! Glad I could help.

Now we just need to wait for full BE support of the X2J... CalCon is okay, but BE has SO much more to offer.

Purchase? Any idea how much that runs?

I understand that it represents a lot of work for these guys, but I guess I just sort of assumed that this kind of thing was something that was released to the public domain after it was decoded... I know all of the Mustang DAT files are all floating around for anyone to grab.

Well i caught a small glimpse at what it took to decrypt the strategy and that glimpse was hours, the amount of time he has taken to do this requires some compensation. Adam is a nice guy im sure if someone organizes a group buy for a lesser price.
