Over the past decade, I purchased a motorcycle dyno and started my own tuning business. Learned a bit about tuning after a thousand or so motorcycles, mainly race bike.
One thing I learned was that you can improve a wondering idle by manipulating the idle timing map. Let's say that you want your idle at 1000 rpm, but the engine "hunts" from 1250 to 750. You can easily bump the timing at 1000 rpm by 3-4 degrees while dropping the timing below and above that 1000 by the same 3-4 degrees. Idle timing maps are typically very, very conservative due to EPA and a few degrees of timing change are next to nothing.
But, the one thing is that I can't find the idle timing map for my X2J in BE...any ideas, anyone?
