Put your car on a jack, to lift one tire off the ground. Start with the front ones. Once you have on off the ground, try and move it back and forth. If the tires moves at all your tie rod ends are suspect. Try both front tires and see. If you want to tell which end of the tie rod it is, pop them out of the knuckle. It's most likely the outers. If the downbolt on the outer tie rod end moves around easily, it needs to be replaced. You should have to really fight to get them to move. Now grab the whole tie rod and pull it back and forth, toward and away from the car. If you have any play the inners could be bad as well.

When you get your car's alignment done they are adjusting the static alignment. When you have worn out suspension parts it's possible that once you start moving the dynamic alignment drifts out of whack. Take it back in to be checked and the static alignment appears ok because the car is not moving.

Make sense? Like most people here you probably have a lot of suspension bits that are worn out and would like to be replaced.

Go back, have them touch it up, and ask for a printout of the alignment. It will show the factory specs, as well as what YOUR car is reading. That would be a good start, and also the suspension checks as the others have said. Good Luck, let us know how it goes!

If it's a REAL mechanic, he wont do an alignment with bad suspension parts. If you have bad tie rod ends, ball joints, struts, anything that is loose, it is almost impossible to align correctly.

Are you just getting the front aligned, or both ends? Yes, a bad alignment in the rear will cause steering issues. Ask them what the thrust angle was set at.

I can't figure it out. Everything seems to be O.K. When they aligned it they said the rear just barely needed anything so they did the rear for free. I'm going to take it to one of the guys shops in my Local Ford Club. They do strictly alignments. I am also going to rotate my tires and see what that does.
