Hey everyone! Its been a long time since I've posted here since my 99 has been so so good to me all these years.

Long story short, I think I filled up with a bad tank of gas. Im not 100% sure its the gas but just to be safe I want to drain the entire tank and re-fill with Sunnoco 93 Octane. Cheap insurance in my mind since I still love driving a V8 Taurus after all these years.

I know one good way is to disconnect the fuel supply line from the fuel rail and place in a gas can. Then jump the fuel pump relay with a paper clip or piece of wire and let the fuel pump empty the tank. I'm pretty sure the fuel pump relay is called out in the owners manual or the back of the power distribution box cover but I dont know what pins to jump on the relay. Can anyone tell/show me what pins I need to jump?

Thanks a million ahead of time!

I guess Im not looking to completely empty the tank. A gallon or so left over should dilute down enough with a fresh fil-up.

Thanks for the diagram!

I do not think this is a good idea. Using the fuel pump to empty the tank, that is. The system is designed, IIRC, so that the gas in the tank is the cooling for the pump, and if trying to run it dry, you could damage the pump. I suggest looking into this further prior to trying to empty the tank via the fuel pump.

There are places that take stale fuel for recycling, especially if you are near any marinas.

I would drain mine by taking the fuel line off the front of the filter, attaching a piece of hose then jumping the rollover switch in the trunk with 12v+.

That was how I drained a tank on a parts car, that I accidently filled it too much. Had about half a tank in it, pulled the hose off before the filter and drained it into a plastic gas can, jumping it at the fuel cut-off switch.
