My shifter has been feeling notchy lately and I'd like to check the tranny fluid. Do I just open up the horizonally mounted cap and add fluid until it starts running out? Also, what's the best way to do this. With a syringe? 95 MTX by the way.

when erik (sho91mtx) did mine he made his own great contraption that works wonders. he had a funnel with soem tub0e attached to it. hopefully he will see this thread and reponse. kudos to erik for making it and also no spillage on my driveway because my mom was happy about that.

I did the same thing also. Just get a small funnel and a peice of clear hose. I cut a small slice in the hose then slipped it over the end of the funnel. Wraped it with some duct tape to make sure it wouldn't come off and that was it!

Use your finger to check the level. It should be about 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch from over flowing(pretty sure, any one back me up?).

Good luck,
Efren

Yes. A small funnel with a length of hose works very well. You may consider adding a drain plug on the tranny as well. This was one of th ebest and easiest mods I performed to the car.

Found the procedure on SHOTimes.com

I'm pretty sure it wouldnt be ATF.. Usually manual transmissions take GL-4, but I'm not an expert on the SHO MTX seeing as I have an ATX..

Yes....the stock transmission calls for Ford Automatic Transmission Fluid......Mercon or Dexron II will do just fine.

to drain most of the fluid, get under the car and look on the forward facing part of the casing, close to the subframe. Say you were looking at the transmission from the driver side. There is a plug at around 7 or 8 o'clock and if you undo that (13mm) it will drain your fluid.

Be EXTREMELY careful when useing the 13mm bolt to drain tranny fluid!!!! It secures the internal shift gate, if you move the shift lever when this bolt is out the tranny will have to be opened up to put the shift gate back in it's place. Mobil 1 synthetic ATF tranny fluid works fine in these 5 speed trannys.

Yes,

Listen to Perry. That bolt does indeed hold the shift gate. Mover the shifter while that bolt is out and you can screw yourself.

installing a drain plug atthe bottom was a piece of cake.

Also, as stated, the MTX does use ATF. I have used both the expensive RedLine MTL manhal tranny fluid, as well as cheapo organic ATF. I think the cheap stuff felt better!

uhhh, we must be talking about two different bolts then, because when I had my tranny apart during my clutch, I checked it, and the gate was secured by another bolt.
