Hey guys im new here and i love SHO's. I thought they were lame forever/never knew alot about them until my older brother had one. Boy was i wrong he had a 1989 it got wrecked (a drunk hit him) and the other he sold was a 89.

Honestly i want to get one because they are very inexpensive, but i hate to say it but, i hate the aftermarket exhausts on youtube. They sound to ricey to me, maybe its because i was a 5.0 guy for ever. But i need to see/hear a better system and im on the hunt for my SHO as we speak. Funds are very tight but there is a blue 91 for sale 5 spd 900.00 i might have to get. I mean my girlfriend will **** me but hey "she'll get over it". :laugh_ti: Well help me out guys what should i get?

Might i add i am looking for something deep and loud but not raspy. Not a v8 but as close as i can.

As stated in my sig, I put a custom 2.75" cat back, 18"x4" Borla resonator, dumping into MagnaFlow mufflers with dual DTM style tips. I think it sounds great! Very little rasp! Cost about $750.00 total about 4yrs ago.

OH, I almost forgot, the MagnaFlow highflow cat helped too!

I have a hi-flow y with gutted cats, a 4.5"x24" cherry bomb glasspack (resonator), and the dynomax cat back. I replaced the mufflers last year with cherry bomb turbos, and it sounds exactly the same.

It seems the key here is the resonator. The bigger you can go, it seems the less rasp and deeper sound you can get. But, being catless wont help the rasp very much.

I have stock headers, SHOSource catless equal length y pipe and the Dynomax cat-back on my SHO and it is pretty raspy above 3500rpms. However, the rasp (which NebSHO guys can vouch for) is a very unique rasp. Coming from a v8 guy like myself, that is saying something. I do think that just tossing on a pair of high flow cats would bring that rasp down to a minimum. Adding a resonator would all but eliminate it.

From my research, an equal length (or as close to equal as possible) y pipe matched up to a smooth and gradual collector at the y-pipe to cat back will erase all rasp, period.

The above statement is largely based upon this exhaust. Please see attached exhaust clip.

Notice the smooth gradual collector.

blue 91? pics or ban. anywho, attempting to find a good sounding V6 SHO is like finding a quick V8 SHO...they're out there, but they're few and far between. the absolute best setup i've heard was a guy who used to work for Ford Performance Specialists named Larry. he had a 3.2 swapped 92, performance plus y pipe, dynomax cat back with magnaflow mufflers and resonator on it. i personally think mine sounds decent with gutted cats, no resonator, custom bent 2 1/2" pipe with a single flowmaster 40 series.

The new SHO Source catback for which you can put on any muffler you want: SHO Source

Sounds really good with Magnaflow mufflers.

Allright, first, get the 91 SHO if you think it is a good buy. Trust me, there are alot more decent girls available than decent SHO's, and they both need to be maintained, so the decision is an easy one. A SHO is very likely to be more rewarding, and you can use the SHO to find another girl. As far as exhaust, I agree with and have high flow cats, gives a deeper sound. It's hard to beat the beauty of a 5.0 Mustang at idle, but the high end cats should satisfy you when you pass the 5.0.

I run a 3'' downpipe into a 3 inch 12'' long cherry bomb and dump it out under the rear passenger door.

Sounds awesome and mean!

I love that sound.

Mines louder but doesn't have the same rumble at idle.

I love that clips sound.

Thats from a highly modified SHO...

It was made for a salts flat car so it may not be street legal.

Also I think it was a one off so unless you are around them it might be a bit hard.

O wow I should start to read descriptions from videos.... but still sounded nice. Honestly i did question street legality due to loudness. I guess i'll keep looking i like the Flowmasters and dynomax from SHO source but i liked Lj's zetup too.

If u hate rasp, dynomax and flowmasters would be the worst thing to get...........

Look at getting a big resonator and 2 mufflers that are not straight-threw design. Stay away from anything with just baffles. Thats for V8's :)

I have to agree with Matt here (LoudSHO92). The set up on his car does sound very very good. It's probably the best I've heard an MTX sound. Other than that, it's hard to get the MTX to sound right. My ATX is running a SHOShop ATX y-pipe (yes, they made them back in the day) with gutted cats, SHOShop catback, and Magnaflows, and it sounds freaking amazing. There is video in the SHO Related section.

I think a stock exhaust with high flow y pipe sounds best; not noisy and you can hear the intake. IMO The worst bang for buck spent on a SHO is with aftermarket exhaust, as very little power if any is gained, most sound poor, and they are aluminized rather than stainless like the OEM, so they rot out after about 3 years.

This is the best sounding SHO exhaust by far, a few times ive listened to it i almost forget its a SHO. This catback is what all SHO's should have.
