Like the title says...... What is the best air filter for 93 ATX with no modes?
I heard that K&N were not so good because of the oil on the filter or something like that.

yea, just go to autozone and pick the cheapest one they have in stock. i use a k&n, but only because my car came w/ one. but the basic one is fine. k&n wont give you any noticable difference. but it also wont give you problems either if its properlly oiled. the issues you hear about usually refer to people over-oiling it and then your maf sensor gets coated and gives wacky readings.

Do you seriously think that a cheap air filter is the same quality as a K&N????????? Same air flow?? :shakehead
Buy a K&N and you'll be glad you did it. There is a big difference in airflow, just look at the displays they have at your autoparts store. Oil is only a problem if you over oil it.

There has been a huge debate over this already. Do a search. I run a K&N because they are reuseable and offer the best flow.

K&N>Paper filter

Hold your K&N up to the light. See all that light shining through? Those are HOLES of which dirt can pass through. The benefits of getting a K&N are slim. A K&N filter costs what... $45? You can get at least 4 and probably up to 10 paper filters out of that. If you don't live in a dusty climate they run for about 5-10 thousand miles.

Are you keeping your car for over 100k? If not, don't waste the money, OH, and your MAF will work better. K&N oil + Ford MAFs = bad.

I got my K&N for 15 bucks on ebay and it was brand new. and yes I see that you can see through it, but I dont live in a dusty area.

Besides, how hard is it to clean the MAF element out with some electrical parts cleaner everytime I change my oil??

I would MUCH rather stick to the tried and true paper filter than induce my SHO's engine to harmful, dirty air. These motors take a beating as it is, no reason to make things worse.

ANYTHING that gets past that air filter will contribute to internal wear on the motor. Specifically piston rings. It doesnt take a "dusty area" for a motor to injest harmful particles.

Besides, how hard is it to rebuild a motor that wore out prematurely??
