Belt tensioner= bad knocking noise

Well after taking the frount covers off and removing the beltandtensioner on the 93 atx the tensioner seems to be the culprit in the loud knocking at 15oo rpm.The piston on the tensioner can be slightly depressed with my thumb.This was letting the tesioner pully to whack and bottom the thing out.Thanks for the replies on this fellows.Jim
