Its a minor problem, but bothersome nonetheless. There is a loud sound coming from the belts in the engine bay that can be heard outside the car echoing off whatever it can. It can best be described as ticking but thats not quite it. I have already ruled out crank cancer by inspecting the key a few months ago. Its fine. And anyway the noise goes away completely when even a little bit of water is sprayed on the belts. What could be causing this? The belts are about 16k miles old. Are they worn already? Or are the belts too loose or too tight? As an interesting side note, my friend with a modded eclipse GST is experiencing the same noise and to say that its annoying when it is louder than the exhaust at idle in both of our cars is an understatement.

either tension too tight or bearing. my suggestion get a big *** screw driver and stick it on the nuts of each tensioner and pulley and stick your ear to it while the car is running. if you hear a loud noise on one there ya go if not try the timing belt tensior when the bearing goes bad it makes kinda a dull rubbing noise i bet your belts may be too tight and your over stressing the bearings. You should be able to wiggle the belts a little but not too much or they'll squeal.
