I read up on it at v8sho.com. I want to do this. The underhood temps seem ridiculous, especially in the summer heat. Anyways, any pics. or tips would be greatly appreciated. BTW, my battery is an Odyssey PC1200.
How do you/ what do you use to connect the old battery cable to the new one?
Also, where would I want to connect the hotwires from the foglights, bazooka tube, 100 watt headlight wiring harness, etc. to? They are currently ran directly to the battery.

To connect the positive cables, cut the positive terminal right after the loop that slides onto the battery post. This leaves you with a nice ring terminal that you can bolt the new wire (and your foglights/headlight wiring harness) to. I'd suggest connecting the bazooka tube to the bolt on your new positive terminal at the battery in the trunk.

Some other pics here.

EDIT: On second thought, maybe you should connect your headlight harness and your foglight hot wire to the master fuse box under the hood. That's what I did. You'd want to slide the ring terminals onto the left bolt of the master fuse box, the side that says "battery."

thanks :thumb: Good pictures, too!
Did the lid come with your battery box, or did you just find something to USE as a "lid"?

The lid came with the box I bought at Wal-Mart.

Paul and I are talking about the same post on the Mega fuse.

Skye, Where did you get your battery cable?
Also, did you use the 250A fuse at the battery like Paul suggests (at the v8sho.com writeup)? If so where did you get it at?

2 ga red battery cable (25 ft) . I ran the cable along the passenger side of the car and I had about 5 ft left over. Use about 1 ft for the ground cable and keep the extra 4 feet for something else.

While you're at Del City, go ahead and order some standard copper lugs. Buy the battery terminals at Wal-Mart, though. They carry the OEM spring type.

I'll quote Paul from an e-mail on the V8SHO list:

"Fuses are cheap, sure and reliable. www.waytekwire.com has 250A fuses
(46276) for under $4 each and a holder (46039) for ~$6.

Paul"

thanks so much! I am getting the info. I SO needed! :thumb:
Sorry for the ignorance, but:
Why the copper lugs AND the battery terminals (Walmart)

Also, would the cheapo split loom from Walmart suffice for the battery cable?

Use a copper lug to
  • connect to each side of the fuse holder
  • connect the new (+) cable to the old (+) cable
  • connect the new ground to the fender in the trunk

By my count that's four copper lugs, but order more just in case.

The two battery terminals from Wal-Mart will go on the ends of your new cables at the battery... you'll be cutting the old ones down to make them into ring terminals.

Just be sure to order at least a couple of fuses....... :thumb:

Good point. Talk about downtime. I should order another for myself, since I only ordered one! :bonk:

Most hardware stores have the lugs too. Look in the welding department.

That's true. I suggested ordering them @30 cents a piece instead of the $1.50 a piece they charge me at Ace.

Any split loom should do, David.

I use a high temp loom. Rated for 300F. It has a gray stripe on it. There also is monochrome colored loom now. www.delcity.net is where I get mine.

Where did you come through the fire wall, and did you route the power along the front of the engine compartment.

I used to have a battery in the trunk, but for audio reasons had to rerun wire down the passenger side instead of the driver's side in order to prevent whine, came thruogh the grommet in the front passenger floor, I am getting a huge drain and it killed the battery overnight everynight.

I ran it through the firewall grommet above the brake pedal, then ran it over to the passenger side behind the bottom of the dash along the floor, using zip ties to keep it in place. Then it went under the passenger floor panels.

Junkyards are a great source for 250A and 275A Mega-Fuses. I usually get a few every time I go. So far, they have never charged me for them.

well I finally did it. Thanks for all the input and pics :thumb:
A couple Q's:
1. If I decide to put the OEM battery in, will I NEED TO GET A $100 Moroso battery box, or will my hacked up Walmart box do? In other words, how dangerous are the fumes?

2.If I go to the track (Bristol Dragway), will they inspect my car... and park it, if I don't have a **** switch?

3. I ditched the cable that originally ran from the neg. terminal at the battery to a ground at the fender area. Now I am ONLY running the SINGLE black wire to a ground. This OK? I noticed Skye kept BOTH black wires (see his pic)...

Since Britsol is NHRA mandated, they will inspect your car. And rules say that any car with a battery relocated has to have a Killswitch on the exterior of the car to run. My cousin did this and what he did was make am extended bracket, lets say, for his License plate, so a killswitch could fit behind it. Everytime he goes to the track, He simply takes off his license plate and is good to go.

I've been to two different NHRA tracks. One look at the Taurus and it OK. Even as the guy in front of me at one track was made to prove his **** switch worked. He did have about 400 more HP though.
