Ugh, forgot to completly secure my battery several days ago and apparently it made contact with the alternator at some point because there's some nifty markings on the casing. FORTUNATELY it didn't cut thru the case and explode or spill acid everywhere.

The problem lies with me noticing the battery light flicker several times then go out, but tonight it came on steady and won't go off. No change in performance of the electrical system that I can tell as of yet but I'm wondering if I killed my alt or the bearings in it? It'd be time to change it anyway being that it has 246K on the original but I had no problems before this. I'm gonna have it tested tomorrow just wanna get a consensus.

TIA

...nevermind, the light went out but does come on intermittently. I had the alt. and battery tested this afternoon and the battery read 12.88v while the alternator read 14.36v no load and 14.26v with load. Strangely enough the light is still flickering?? Weird that this has only hapenned to me, tough luck.

Upd8: The alternater/battery is actin REALLY wonky lately since this incident. Today the alt. light came on once again and as I was driving all the lights slowly dimmed inside and the climate control started going on and off right along with the ABS light. Where it gets weird is that everything cleared back up and came back on and started acting normally over and over again?! I'm thinkin' the internals on my original Ford alternator are giving up.

my alt was putting out too much :naughty: was able to replace the regulator and its good to go now.

Another thing to check before you throw your wallet at it; is (if equipped) that 1 pin grey connector that plugs into the alt can get corroded. might have to polish / scrape it a bit with a pick and slap some dielectric grease on there.
