Bass Problems

Hey All,
I installed my first audio upgrade to the SHO, I installed a Jensen 10"
Sub Basspass Box. Picture at,

Anyway, It is connected to the stock Amp, and sounds GREAT...with the
trunk open. As soon as the trunk shuts I loose so much bass. and driving
with the trunk open isn't really and option.

I have removed the stock JBL sub to let the Bass get into the rear deck,
does anyone know how to take out the back deck and back seat?

I had a friend tell me I should run Bass "tubing" from the ports to the
rear deck??

Thoughts?

get a bigger amp and/or sub finger

but seriously, the back seat is very easy to take out, I can take it out in 15 seconds lol

push the bench part of seat toward the trunk of car and it should lift right up. There will then be to brackets w/ bolts holding the upper part of seat down, they are located under where the bench would have been

Also, I wouldn't bank on anything but the stock JBL sub or equivalent sounding very good on the power the stock amp supplies (but I'm sure you already knew that).

ya really, that stock sub is a 6" i believe, and there isn't much that for an amp to push... so i would go with even a cheep-o 150-200 watt amp. Yes wiring the amp won't be too much fun, but you will be greatly satisfied with the amount of bass you will get with a different amp.

Bass ports works best on subs that use bass reflex to create bass. Alright, I'll be show for overusing a word in a sentence... Anyway, when done properly, the bass effect is greatly improved by using ports.

you are using a bandpass box. A bandpass box is basically a box within a box. Now when you close the trunk, it is a box within a box within a box. If you follow me there. There are a lot of factors that have to be right for that box to sound right, more than a regular ported box, and way more than a sealed box. Anyways, with any type of speaker alignment, placement within the vehicle can greatly effect bass output. My suggestion is, if you are getting good bass with the trunk open, first try moving the box around and facing the ports in different directions within the trunk. This could end up yeilding the results you want. I don't recomend extending the existing ports on the box though. This will change the frequency the box is tuned to, and can result in damage to the speakers.

I found in my old GEN 2 that when I placed the subs closer to the trunk lid that I got the best results due to the general acustics of bass. Of course I had 2 12's with 1000 watts, which was overkill anywhere I put them. wink

I second that with 1200 watts. Best back messager I bought.

Yea i second that you need more power. When i had my system in my 94 i had 2 15" Pioneer DVC IMPP's that sounded great. Thats not exactly good on the rear suspension. Taking the back seat out is just gonna make it easier to steal your stuff and make it visible. (if your not tinted)
