So I just bought an SHO with a bad transmission. I really don't want to spend what I paid for the car at the transmission shop to have them do whatever they plan on doing. So here are my questions: Are there any other cars that had this transmission, and if not, would the transmission from any year SHO work? well, not just any year, from 89 to 95, I suppose, since I have a manual. I have a 92, and my friend has an 89 he's parting and I want to know if I would be able to take his transmission.

any MTX trans from 89-95 will work. 89-90 had brass blocking rings which resulted in more notchy shifting. The later transmissions used fiber lined rings which helped shifting a bit. I would go with a new one if you can find one, but the 89 MTX will work. What happened to your trans? I dont think I read that it had a bad trans anywhere?

The problem was simply mis-diagnosed earlier. I was crossing all my fingers hoping it was just the clutch, but it was pretty apparent it was the tranny, too. You can feel the car jump in little bursts, especially if I let go of the gas. Anyhow, where can I get a new one? Do you mean a newer transmission? or really *new*?

I would recomend a trans out of a Gen II over the early ones. They shift much better.

What do you mean about the car jumps in "little bursts?"
