I drove my car for about an hour and when i went to start it up 5 mins later it cranked really hard . i waited a few seconds and tried starting it again it it just clicks now. My mechanic said it is probably the starter that some parts get worn out inside it. the windings or coils or something... original starter on 106 k. i tried tapping it with hammer ..nothing

Is your battery fully charged? It is probably your starter though. It isn't that hard to replace. It should take you a little over an hour if it is your first time. Make sure you get a starter with a lifetime replacement and keep your receipt..you will use the warranty no doubt!
