Prior to installing the Pioneer headunit in my car ,I had the factory JBL system in the 91. Radio, cdplayer, and amps. First the cd player quit, then the radio started acting up so I ripped em out. Then I bought a 94 Gen2 radio, and Gen 2 amp, and I went to install them.
Well when I hooked it all up like factory, all I would get is constant popping thru all the speakers no sound at all. The Gen 2 amp wouldn't even power up the sub amp. Jelloslug recommended I put the Gen 1 amp back in and try a test with a jumper wire.
So I did as he said ,and there was music, I now had sound through all the speakers with the Gen2 radio, it wasn't loud, but there was sound and it was clear.I know the 1st Gen radios are 12volts, and the 2nd Gen 5volts guess that would explain why it wasn't as loud.
Since I did the test though and it worked, would that be a bad amp, with the gen2 amp there was no sound, only popping, and the sub amp wouldn't even power on, but with the gen1 amp, there was music, just not as loud.
