My daughter has a 1999 SE that has a transmission problem. The shift from first to second sticks intermittently. Sometimes it takes about a second or two to shift, other times about a half a second. It is like the shifter is manually in first gear. The RPMs go up past the normal shift point and then it shifts with a ****. It never does this when the transmission is cool, only after it gets up to the normal operating temperature. It acts the same in cold weather and hot. Driving conditions do not seem to be an issue (Indiana flat land, no towing). I have replaced all the solenoids and the valve body. I have also changed the filter and did a full change of fluid (about 14 quarts of Mercon V) It still acts the same. All other shifts work fine both up and down. It is not setting a code that I can pick up with my hand scanner. I have not taken it to a transmission shop (I’m too cheap) I always try to fix things myself first. Has anyone experienced similar problems with a AX4N transmission, SHO or SLO?

I am no expert in this, but to me that sounds like normal bands going and it is time for a transmission rebuild. Autos are just like manuals, in that periodically you have to fix things that wear. In a manual it would be the clutch and pressure plate and throw out bearing, that sort of thing.

Yep... 1-2 shift flare hot. Fluid is hot and thin. Seals do not hold, making the transmission work incorrectly. Start the transmission fund.

Of course check codes and so on... But it is most likely the beginning of the end.

Thanks!!!

Thanks for the input everyone.

It looks like I get to learn how to repair a transmission. I always have wanted to take one apart.

Does a Master Repair Kit contain most of the "wear" parts that should be replaced?

GREAAAT. My tranny does this, and it was just rebuilt a couple months ago. Looks like I need to call in for warranty work...:madflame:

Just because it was rebuilt, that does not mean it was done right.

As for a master overhaul kit. It will include, frictions plates, gaskets, seals, sealing rings, o-rings, and filter.

You need a bushing kit, trans-go shift kit, cooler, new solenoids, new torque converter.

Just pull it out, and ship it to me. I will fix ya up.
