Found a sub that looks brand new, and I also found a near mind condition radio / cd player combo, I think I'm going to swap out for my old radio that had the changer in the trunk. Now will I have to get the harness of that cd player and will that plug into the setup I have now?

Also With this sub, my main point actually... most music hits that 6.5" way too damn hard... is anyone using a resistor or filter to block out the super deep stuff? Don't you do that by frequency? and isn't there a range on speakers? Anyone happen to know the specs of our wonderful subs?

Just a few things I was thinkin about at work today... figureed someone already figured this out but not finding a lot searching. Thanks!

get Bass Blockers from ebay or wherever. They're everywhere. Get ones to block out, say, everything below 150hz. That should work.

Well I found some at the stereo shop that were 199uF (MicroFarad). It helps a lot, there are still a few songs that are weird. I also found a DIN style Factory CD player, since my changer took a crap. And the input from that cd player is a lot cleaner and dosent have the distortion that the other one did.

yeah, FM transmission FTL. I have no idea what frequency 199pF caps translate to... any idea what frequency they're at?

Same thing I got ... trying to find better specs on it..

I remember 133uF being labled for use on 6 x 9 's , and the 199uF was actually for 10's. It helps a lot, but I believe the 133's might be perfect. The one I got is pretty good, but it still misses a song or two. I think its just anti-rap. :)

bear in mind that the stock enclosure is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too big for that lil itty bitty sub. Also, the signal coming from the stock amp is what's called a "dirty" signal, due to the fact that it's run from speaker level inputs which don't supply a lot of voltage to the amp. In reality, an aftermarket amp with half the power but better voltage would run that sub the way it's meant to be run....clean and nice.

BTW, if you're ever looking for a good replacement sub for that setup, I recommend the JL 6W0....drops right in with minor mods to the box (have to knock out that stuff in the bottom) and it sounds a HELLUVA lot better than the stock JBL piece.

Well I was looking at that, and also maybe a Polk Audio 8" sub. But like you said with the 'dirty signal' can it be cleaned up a bit with another amp, or would I need something else? I would like to keep the factory radio, just to keep it stock looking, but wouldn't be against upgrading an amp.

The Polk Audio sub I seen was sized for a sealed box @ .38 cubic feet? I was assuming this was close, and can't find the size by searching. 200 watts RMS for that 8" ... I would love to upgrade the regular speakers too, but dont know what kind of amp to get for that, being it has the same "dirty signal" ?

It's relatively easy to swap amps for aftermarket units, so long as the amps have high level inputs (i.e. speaker level inputs). You can pick up a small mono amp (single channel) amp for cheap to run an aftermarket sub, and you can do like I did and put pieces of wood in the stock box to bring the airspace down a little bit. As far as the mids and highs, that amp ain't so bad. I know a lot of people who run a stock amp with aftermarket mids and highs and they work just fine. But running an aftermarket sub that has higher power usage, it's better to go with an aftermarket amp.

I'd say 90% of consumer amps have high level inputs... personally I did an after market HU and took the hour or two to run the RCA's to the trunk.... I just don't understand why SHO owners go head over heals to waste time and money when 500-700 in equipment and a couple days of work can produce a very nice clean system...

I just figured they wouldn't in hopes to get you to buy an aftermarket head unit. I would like to keep the body / interior as stock as possible. Nothing really wrong with it at all. I'll have no mp3, but thats the price I'll pay I suppose. Guess I could add one later with an FM modulator tho right?

I still have the one that I was using with my factory 10 disc. Dont know why that wouldn't work. Only an antenna / coax input. Radio shack or Grainger will be my friend.
