Ok, so I just bought a barely used EZ-Scan 3000 OBD1 unit from a forum member here.

He said it works fine. So I plugged it in, followed the instruction manual, and it won't scan.

Here's what I have...

93 ATX with 94/95 EEC-IV unit (might be part of my issue)

When I run either the KOEO or KOER, both talk to the EEC.

KOEO, fan cycles, fuel pump cycles, CEL flashes in sets of 3 flashes in 3 cycles, then the unit kicks back and displays "Vehicle is not responding"

KOER, idle revs up, holds for a few, flashes CEL 3 times, then says same thing, then idle dips under 500 rpm, then levels back out at 750-800rpm with same Vehicle is not responding message.

I tried these configs on the unit:

93 - P
94 - R
95 - S
93 - R
93 - S
94 - P
94 - S
95 - P
95 - R

All have same results. The only thing it will do successfully, is clear codes.

I have ordered a new USB to PC cable to upgrade to latest firmware. Hoping this will fix it. However, I cannot helpbut think there is a special combo of year and 8th VIN letter because of the car being a 93 and the EEC being 94/95 unit.

I'm open to ideas. I'm trying to fix an annoying CEL and a sporadic misfire when warm.

I have not tried on another OBD1 car yet, but plan to in a few minutes on my friend's 93 TBird SC. If it works fine on that, it has to be the non-matching EEC.

Ok, so the scanner works great on the 93 SC. Found out a bunch of stuff on his car. Mine....not so much.

Once my USB cable gets here I'll be updating the unit, but has anyone seen anything like this before?

Will the scanner even work on my 93 H3Z EEC-IV car since I swapped to the D4U1 EEC-IV?

Ok, the scanner won't work fully on the TBird SC anymore either. It clears codes and pulls DCL data. That's it. Gets same Vehicle Not Responding error though when running KOEO/KOER scans.

Ever hear of ODB1 scanner issues with the mismatched EEC units?

I have 93 ATX (had H3Z EEC-IV before) and I got the D4U1 unit, which is either 94 or 95 unit.

My scanner still attempts to scan the car, then I get "vehicle not responding" message when it's cycling the CEL.

I'm sure other people have scanned their cars after this upgrade...just curious what settings I put in the scanner.

It wants the Year and the 8th VIN digit. Which on my car is 93 and P
But if it's reading the D4U1 for this, maybe I need different info??

Thanks.

after reading this, i looked up cars for sale and the only other letter i see is the letter Y.

ive only ever played with OBD2 when i was taken classes though my high school, maybe change one at a time, first the letter to Y and see what happens then maybe type 94 and not 93 using P and see what happens and then change both at the same time from 93 to 94 and from P to Y and see what happens. i hope that this helps and i hope you get it working.

Matt brings up a good point. Try the paper clip method and see if you can get any codes, even just a 111. That would help narrow down if it was the scanner or the PCM.
