Just out of curiousity how does the Auto climate control work. Like does it deside to turn the AC on or off or does it just blow air until the inside temp is what you have it set at??

There is a sensor on the dash (behind the SHO logo) that pulls air from inside the car and measures the temperature. There is also a sunload sensor that tells if its sunny (and hot). The EATC (set in AUTO mode) uses both of these sensor to determine if heat or A/C is needed and where to direct and how much airflow is needed. The A/C compressor runs all the time in AUTO (except when the outside temp is below 32°F or 0°C and when your at WOT) to keep the humidity down. In other modes it work more like a standard A/C system except that it still measures the air temperature to determine fan speed unless you override the fan speed with the dial. This is one of the better auto climate control system that I have used. A lot of GM cars give you little control over the settings when you are not in AUTO mode.

I'll add that the exterior air temperature sensor mounted forward of the A/C condensor also provides an input to the ECC.

- The ECC unit will adjust air flow (fan speed) and temperature (blend door position and compressor operation) to achieve the setpoint temperature.

- When first engaged, even in AUTO mode, the A/C will utilize recirculated air flow (as used constantly in MAX A/C) to quickly lower the interior temperature until within a certain temperature range of the setpoint.

- The compressor will be used to manage interior air humidity even in colder air temperatures to reduce window fogging.

- The compressor is operated as required in all modes except OFF, VENT and FLOOR.

I'll now add that the performance of the system had spoiled me when I am in cars that have manual climate controls or even other brands of automatic systems. Except for those fragile buttons.

Agreed! I used to HATE messing back and forth with the temperature **** or turning the fan on/off to keep the temp inside the car where I wanted it. Why don't all cars have this?? :D
