I had been wanting to do the upgrade for like, years. So when the audio started cutting out in July I decided it was time to upgrade.

I still get touchscreen noise, the car talks to me fine and makes beeps and boops, but any radio-based audio just doesn't work. I get nothing.

I checked the radio fuse, and 1 of the audio amps (#5) in the panel by the steering wheel, and both are fine.

Any thoughts on what else I can do to troubleshoot this?

The 3 hour each way drive last weekend was.......fun? with no music or audiobooks or podcast.....

For reference its a 2013 SHO that I did the upgrade on. Everything else on Sync3 seems to be working fine (except maybe the interior LEDS but its daytime so could be that)

Pic shoes that Sync 3 is loaded and says its playing music......but nada

Which kit did you use? I’m looking into upgrading as well.

Not to be a party pooper but its a well known fact that those kits from China are substandard ripoffs. They take old APIM units and mix/match boards from other units and hack the software. Then they print counterfeit tags that look factory Ford. Read the attached document from FLVPmods and especially check out the info on the Chinese garbage on Pg 4. If you want to upgrade from Sync 2 to 3 I highly recommend getting your kit from FLVPmods.

On a side note...your screen is probably fine. You just need a properly functioning APIM that is programmed for your car.

UM...maybe my initial post was not clear.

Before Sync 3 upgrade, I had no media sounds. swapping the units for a new one did not fix it, or cause it. So I am looking for ways to further troubleshoot this audio issue knowing it is not a APIM issue.

the new apim is working fine, updated its software fine via wifi and seemingly is functioning 100% correctly

I will be purchasing from him actually! He’s just out of displays right now.

As far as the OP issue, I have not seen this. I would suspect the DSP (left side of trunk). All the audio signals go through that before going to speakers.

As far as the Sync3 upgrade, personally, I highly recommend piecing it together yourself. I did mine for under $300. www.car-part.com has the screen w/ apim for $125 at multiple locations. I specifically found one from a 2019 SHO with the same options as mine. Then you add the GPS antenna, USB hub, hub wiring adapter, hub adapter, and ForScan/adapter. This maintains factory quality parts and compatibility.

Interesting, thanks! Any idea if it has its own fuse? or a part #?

My guess is it is used in multiple platforms/option levels. It is probably blank hardware and it needs programmed to give the various EQ/power as desired by application.

You can program it yourself with FORScan. And the problem you're having is because of the junk Chinese APIM you installed.
I agree with the first part, maybe not the second part. The problem existed before the APIM swap. I would not automatically assume a junk APIM. Not out of the question but, the rest of the system is in question since it was a previous issue.

Look, get off your soapbox, please. The issue pre-dates the APIM swap, and I think that was clear because I stated this issue prompted me to do the sync upgrade.
Suggesting that a part that wasn't on the car when the problem started makes you look silly.
