I recently just purchased a 93 sho and so far I love it. It's in great condition it was grampa owned before me. It has a sub but it doesn't work at all I'm assuming the amps dead but my question is why do the highs sound so muted? It's like the volume only goes up half way. Thanks.

You could have a dead subwoofer amp, or just bad connections and/or a bad head unit, or the tweeters in the front speakers could be toast. You will need to do a little more homework to figure that out.

I have at least one factory sub amp in my for-sale thread, if you are in need of one. I may even be able to find a pair of factory door speakers in my collection.

The cd player doesn't even turn on also. If the amps were bad would there still be sound? I have highs in all speakers just not loud and the sub doesn't do anything. I've messed with all the connections and fuses already and unhooked the cd player but that made the sound even more non existent.

If it's not a collector/show car, put new stuff in there. The factory equip is too old and the factory cd players always had problems.

Take note of the dash mounted unit and get another one from this forum. All of my audio problems in the past have been solved by swapping in another head unit, so that is where I always start.
When I was in need, I got a lot of help from Rubydist and SV&HODan who knew all the models, and what ran what. Another big help came from Cutubitus (?) who had all the faceplate choices of the different models and all the schematics, as well as pictures of his install from a recent dash change.
There is a fair amount of information on this forum, and lots of illustrations in the threads to help you along.
When the original system is working properly, it is hard to beat, and it is nice to keep that dash mounted control unit.

If you do go for a new system, there is a whole different set of wiring built into the car that you will be using.

Thanks guys that's where I'll start. Sperold you think the factory jbl sounds better than if you would bypass the amps and use an aftermarket hu? You don't need amp's bc new hu's have them internal correct?

You are correct. You will not go wrong by putting in a modern unit. And it does have the lure of being a one shot fix.

But you lose that panel mounted radio control (by the speedo), and the back lighting of any new unit will not match the rest of the dash.
The factory JBL system will be as good as anything but a mega unit you buy today. You can get all the components on this forum for little money. I do agree the tape / CD players can be annoying, but you will be able to get a good working unit (it may be yours is OK).
I got an entire working unit from this forum for the cost of shipping, from a member that was updating his system, so there are still opportunities to get the original stuff if you want it.

Well I got the highs working by shorting the wires that go to the cd player. Now I just have to trouble shoot the sub. I'm thinking thats the amp but I'll find out tom.
