Talk to me? This seems to the best replacement for the sho? Mine is 500 whp and tuned perfect but the rs3 seems to be the next step up in power and still has all the luxury the sho has. I get it's in the 50k+ range for a used one but they don't seem to drop in price. Whats the bad?

Thanks!

RS3 are absolute monsters once you tune them. A few simple bolt ons and E85 and you're into the tens reliably. One of my buddies owns one and they are fairly reliable, but if you break something you are going to pay for it. They run low 12's stock on the street and easy 10s tuned up and that's not full dick. Good replacement if you want to pay for it. Currently the market is really high on them just fyi.

Ya the price is new for a 3 year old car with 25k miles. Not afraid of pay for repairs it's the time down. Might keep the sho for a bit just for this reason.

Not familiar with reliability/weaknesses of that car. Only down side is maybe parts price and avail. As long as you have a backup you can get any vehicle.

The Bulldog as they refer to them, is still FWD bias, so you'll be used to that at least. :)

I've kicked around the idea in 3-5 years to take a peek at them when I'm ready to trade in the SHO. I was hoping by that time the price might come down a bit.

I was looking at an RS4. 2011 for 13K. The guy upgraded to an S6 and was looking to sell. 500HP, all wheel drive, Supercharged, 6 speed auto, tuned, debadged, lowered, upgraded suspension, brakes etc. Sold it before I could look at it.

They're pricey for sure. They have about the same problems as the SHO. water pump, plastic thermostat housings, carbon build up etc. Worth the money? For sure. Cost to own? Expensive. Really need a good Audi mechanic to look a used one over. And always check the maint records lol.

E63 S. AWD (4 Matic) with the ability to turn off the front drive. 4.0 Liter Twin Turbo V-8. 9 speed transmission, all the luxuries. Enough said.

Well not to be that guy lol. My sons GTI is North of 600 HP. Fully built motor, big turbo, 4 bar, built tranny and meth. That's about 8k in upgrades, ask me how I know lol.

It walks away from many a hot rod easily. And the tuner said he could probably get another 50 to 75 HP easy. So don't laugh if a GTI rolls up on you.

If you want to go big HP, the best solution for most will be AWD. Nick (BaySHO) will tell you that 500+ HP in a FWD means never having to worry about traction in first or second gears, there isn't enough, ever. It also means that the motor is now considered a regular replacement part....
Yes, I am aware that there are FWD Hondas in the 7's and 8's but those left the realm of street car very long ago.

If the original poster is prepared to pay Audi maintenance, it's a nice-looking way to go. A friend who owns an import garage just rubs his hands when some third owner of an Audi or BMW or M-B rolls in, and the book shows that it has $7K+ in deferred maintenance. "But I got it for $10K!" "Yes, don't you think there was a reason for that?"
