ATX TRANSMISSION ISSUES

mY 95 ATX IS SHORT SHIFTING, DOWNSHIFTING, UPSHIFTING-----OF ITS OWN ACCORD. MOSTLY CAR DRIVES GREAT- NOW THIS. FLUID IS FULL AND CLEAR, ALL OTHER SIGNS CHECK OUT OK. ANY IDEAS- I DON'T WANT TO HAVE A TRANSMISSION REBUILT FOR NO REASON. HELP!!!! shoot

Possible Vehicle Speed Sensor malfunction.

Does your car shift harder when it's cold and normal when warmed up, or is it still normal since the eratic shifting problem?

Try pulling the codes.

My old Explorer did something similar when the Throttle Position Sensor failed.

If you're lucky, that will be it. The TPS is pretty inexpensive and is easy to replace (as long as you don't strip the screwhead out).

mine drives same cold or hot- actually happens more often when warmed up, I suppose. Crusie control is working, so maybe not VSS. I don't want to take this to transmission shop and hear their standard explanation on why it needs to be rebuilt, simply for lack of a better explanation.

My brothers 93 sho just got it's tranny rebuilt. but now it seems like the shifter is kind of tilted twords the back of the car a bit if that makes any sense. and it seems to shift hard out of 2nd to 3rd driving normal (slow) But mainly i hit it on the highway around 50-60 and it revs like crazy and speeds up slowly then drops into gear and speeds up quickly. If it's the vehicle speed sensor would it set off a code. Befor it got rebuilt it was revving up out of first then shifting hard into second and forth shifted in fine but downshifted hard out of od. However if you ****** yourself 1-3 it was fine. I know the 4th was messed up but could a speedsensor been the problem with first the whole time? Also are there solenoids in the tranny that are replaced with a rebuild.

take it in now, or risk the rebuild that is inevitable being much much more expensive.

Mine was....to the tune of $1000 more.

The fact that it is winding out of gear between shifts leads me away from VSS and toward a rebuild. That and the fact that your cruise control is still functional. Sorry to say, but rebuild, here you come.. frown
