Hey there everyone. I've got a 2013 SHO non PP 44k miles, owed it since 38k miles and have only done an oil change thus far, unsure of full maintenance history before my purchasing the car, previous owner was an older gentleman who always took it to the dealer for service so I assume everything is up to date. It's been a fantastic car so far. It's the fastest car I've ever owned while still giving me all my creature comforts on the inside... However my car seems to be having a rather concerning issue; in gears 4- 6 my transmission seems to emit a whining sound, the whine is dependent on engine RPM but only occurs when the car is in gear (revving in neutral while at speed doesn't produce the noise), the whine seems to be loudest going in gear 5. You can also "hear" the transmission shift when going up and down through gears 4-6 in manual mode, the whine changes pitch depending on what gear you're in.
I just got a new set of Continental DWS06 tires coming from some lower end Michelins last week, though it doesn't seem to be tire related as the whine changes pitch with the RPMs rather than the speed of the vehicle (but only when in gear) so I feel like it'd almost have to be transmission related. The trans fluid seems ok, level was spot on, fluid wasn't brand new by any means but still pink, a tiny bit burnt smelling but nothing crazy. I took it for a 10 min drive going through all gears (to unsettle any possible metal shavings) and rechecked the fluid, I found some very fine metallic dust in the fluid that had a very fine gritty feel between my fingers. I'm not sure how much (if any) of this stuff is considered acceptable. Any ideas as to what could be causing this issue? I will be getting my mechanic to flush the fluid tomorrow and then booking it into the dealer if that doesn't fix the issue as my powertrain warranty is valid for another few weeks thankfully...
