I have located a tranny for sale...I am not selling one...and I would like some input into its value. I have no real knowledge of its past but I thought it might be nice to have one, since it appears to be small and compact I can stick it into a corner.

Any ideas what I should pay for one?

Ideally you want a '94 or '95 tranny, but a '93 is usually OK as long as its been rebuilt at some point.

Unless it's super low mileage (under 50K) or recently rebuilt, $500 is the max.

Search http://www.car-part.com for prices in your area, you may even locate a better tranny at a better price.

Well, all those things are huge when determining how much you will pay. In regards to the years, the design is the same ('93 had a unique TC and spline shaft for it). Also, the '93 is inherently weaker than the '94-'95 models.

Ok the ad claims it was rebuilt and has a rebuilt convertor in it? Listed years are 93-95 so it does not state one or the other on that. No mileage listed either.

Do you think the Ford factory rebuild is better than a quality tranny shop rebuild?
I don't think he was saying that, but usually when looking at a tranny that's been out of the car, a Ford rebuild has their badge on it, another rebuild you really don't have any way of knowing who rebuilt it, reputable or not.

FWIW, while we have a handful of tranny pros around the country that we would trust to do a quality rebuild on a SHO tranny, Ford trannys have a very good reputation for being good out of the crate almost 100% of the time. They are generally pretty demanding on the QC from their contract rebuilders. That and the 3/36 warranty valid at any Ford dealer in the country makes them an attractive option to many.
