Most of the time...tranny shifts "hard" with 1st to 2nd most noticible. Is intermittent depending on what is happening with the throttle. How bout it ATX owners is this the norm?

LT,

I have owned my sho for about two months.
When I got it the tranny was slipping, and it did not shift hard.

I had a transgo kit installed into my newley rebiult tranny, and now under certain acceleration I get a hard(quick) shift that feels harder than any car i have ever driven.

What I am getting at is maybe you have a **** kit already installed in your ATX.

If its not slipping........be happy.

With all my motormounts replaced and my new tranny with increased valve body pressure makes the full throttle one to two shift shift so fast and hard it gives the dash a light jolt. I no longer get a hard shift at 4,000rpm with the new rear motor mount.

He he,
Glad to see im not the only one with tranny issues. When I bought my 94 ATX it had 57,000 on it. The shifting on it was quite erratic at that time. Sometimes 1st to 2nd would give u whiplash. Other times it was nice and smooth. Bout the only constant was that it seemed to wait to shift nomatter what the throttle position was. I took it to Ford Dealership several times. Each time they said that the car was fine and that the transmission was shifting normally. So I decided to just leave it be and drove the car. I did however buy warranty with the car and im glad that I did. I drove it for several years and many thousands of miles with the tranny acting the way I described. It never seemed to get worse or better. So I chalked it up as it was just how an ATX SHO acted. Well at 97,000 the warranty was about out so I took it to AAMCO to get the tranny checked out while it still was free to me. They drove it and said it needed to be tore down and checked. So they looked it over and low and behold they said it was all screwed up and needed a complete overhall. $1900 later the car now shifts excelent. It is smooth shifting at light throttle and firm and heavey throttle. Shift points seem to be better as well. It definitely is an improvement over how it was when I purchased the car. Im just glad I had warranty for it. Id say if ur ATX is shifting the way u described. You had better get it checked out. It may last like mine did but it isnt right.

I had this same exact problem!

'94 ATX with 63K on the odometer..

The 1st to 2nd shift would feel really hard during partial/light throttle, felt like I had a shift kit...funny thing about my situation, is that it would only shift really harsh from 1st between the rpms of 2500 and 3000 (light accel)to 2nd..and it got worse as the car would heat up..

Luckily I have a Ford Warranty also...and after complaining over and over again, they finally replaced the tranny and 2500$ in work later it has been running pretty good (no more harsh shifts between 1st and 2nd)..

Even tho my tranny doesnt shift rough anymore, It does get a bit sluggish when the car heats up...so since Im in for 60K service coming in 8 days, I asked Performance Plus to replace the VSS just to see if it will help (Since they are dropping the Y-pipe to replace it with a performance one)...

Take care!

Well When I bought my 93 atx with 80k ...Ford had just put in a rebuilt tranny. Is always shifts hard from 1 to 2 but if you know your points you can get it to shift nicely.I have 120k now and noticed the hard shifts have gone down a bit but the trannys still running nicely.
