Hi,

The shifter in my 93 ATX is very difficult to move, trying to put it past drive feels like your going to break the shifter.

With the shifter linkage totally disconnected from the transmission, the shifter is still very hard.

So I am assuming this is because of the cable is damaged. I want to replace the cable but not quite sure how it comes out, has anyone taken out the shifter cable? Do you pull it out from the outside or pull it out from the inside & do the pieces on the end come off (cause they dont seem to from what im looking at)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Me too...

Having the exact same problem with our 95 ATX, except the shifter cable / linkage did break. Had to remove the console and move the cable with back and forth with vice grips. The cable is on order from Ford (about 115 bucks). So here's a bump in hopes that someone who has done this job will chime in.

Try lubing the cable from both ends with a good penetrating ****.

I used some of my outboard engine fogging oil which worked quite well.

Actually there are two cables and three vacuum lines. One cable goes to the tranny and the other goes to the steering column. When the steering column is unlocked the shifter unlocks. Check this also.
