Ive raced a few friends in my 94 ATX and noticed my car doesnt really seem to go until about 4k-4.5k RPMs. Is this the normal RPM for the power to kick in? I have a pretty decent exhaust leak too would this contribute to loss of pwoer on the lower end?

The reason your car seems to pull better at 4,000 rpms is because your secondary runners kick in (more air being flowed into the motor). But your car should still pull half decently before then (keep in context that it is a big family sedan). if you haven't yet do a full 60k service to your engine. search posts for 60k

Yeah i dont really ahve the money to do a 60k. So would my exhaust have anything to do with this? I might throw some Summit turbo mufflers on soon.

Fix exhaust leak and make sure plugs and wires are good and if all the sensors are good you should have plenty of power through all rpms... I have a 93 ATX and It kicks butt allt he way through the rpm....

Make certain your secondaries actually close when the engine is started. If you loose the vacuum line or the electrical control, they will stay open all the time and the engine will be a dog below 4K.

Thats what it sounds like it is doing. Until 4k it doesnt really have any kick. How can I check in to this?

I'd like to know this as well! No matter how many times I reset my idle, it always eventually creep back up to 1k to slightly above that at idle!

The best burst of power you'll get out of the ATX is when you're going between 20mpg & about 30-33mph speed. Usually, if you smash it during this interval, the SHO will take off like never before! It's a slight and minute time lag with the burst however. I actually only discovered doing this a year ago after having it for 5 years! With the ATX it actually is a lil' technique of knowing how your car reacts to get in this power band!
