HELP!!!!

My 94 ATX's Transmission went south on me Friday. All was well as I drove to work on the interstate with the cruise on. Without warning, noise or anything else. all my gears went away. All I have is park and neutral in any other position. Fluid is full and not burnt. She has 148,000 miles and has been shifting fine until Friday. Any Ideas? Hopefully cheap ones???? I cant justify dropping a new tranny in her at this time so I'm praying it's something simple like a cable or the like.

can you push it easily when its in drive? just like its in neutral? and how is the fluid level? you know to get the right reading that the car has to be running in park? (most dodges are in neutral, but almost all domestics otherwise are in park)

Does the transmission lock in PARK like it's supposed to or can the car still roll with the selector in PARK?

The list of things that can cause a "no engagement" condition is pretty long.

Among the easier fixes might be a broken halfshaft (that's what we're checking for above) or the shifter cable might have failed.

Internally, you can hope the filter came loose and you simply aren't picking up any fluid.

Other than those items, the transmission would have to be pulled.

Do run a PCM Quick Test to see if the PCM can identify any electronic control issues with the AX4S.

If you can get access to an oil pressure guage (0-300 psi), check LINE and EPC pressures. I bought a set from O'Reilly's (Special Order) for less than $35 about 4-6 weeks ago.

Run a converter stall test. Put in gear, apply brakes firmly and hit the gas. The engine should rev up to the converter stall speed (around 2200-2900) and go no further. Do not keep the RPMS up more than 10 seconds. Allow several minutes between test cycles. If the RPMs just go beyond 3K and still climb, your TC may have puked.

She holds in park fine. the car was in drive when it failed (doing about 70 at the time) when in park the rev limiter kicks in like it's supposed to at 4200 rpm, but when in gear nothing happens and I can rev it to redline. I spoke to a friend of mine who used to be the tranny guy at the Ford dealer I used to work for and he thought is was the front clutch piston that may have failed. if it breaks, the only thing that will work is park.

this just happened to me same symtoms, Pump shaft broke in two

could also be the TC puking, drive chain breaking or the intermediate speed drum broke.
