I sold my 96' SHO a few months ago, it was in really good condition (148K) with welded cams, all options, nice paint, good interior, rebuilt transmission, tons of new parts, new tires, and everything worked. It look a couple months to find the right buyer...like someone has already said you will get a lot of no shows and low-ballers. Eventually I sold the car for $2800.

I hope I don't offend you, but a car with a bad transmission has very little demand. Best of luck with sale.

A second real data point is $2500.00 base car price plus $325.00 for Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) for a total of $2825.00 for a 96 SHO.
Here, you cannot get away from the HST, as this one came from a car lot so all the taxes are collected at full fare.

And this was not a pretty car. It had a flat black finish (don't know if it was painted on purpose or if it was damaged, sun baked original paint.

You pick the price you want to record at, but that is the true price.

I am one hour due south of Ottawa Ontario, on the 401 highway along the St. Lawrence river. The town is Prescott Ontario, 3/4 hour west of Cornwall and 1 hour east of Kingston, all on the 401 highway.
We are a long ways apart.

Sold mine today.
I listed it late Friday night for $1700 and got $1600 on Sunday evening from the first person that looked at it.

It is basically mechanically sound but aesthetically rough.
Clearcoat 1/3-1/2 gone. A couple rust bubbles starting to form, but the right rear rocker is severely rusted -- as in, gone.

Still looks ok on the DS from a few feet...

And the interior's respectable for 162k

WP 20140808 0131 zps64ab8ea3

But the two reasons I didn't feel right trying to get a lot more...
1) I only paid $1600 for it 3 yrs ago.
and 2) My in-laws sold me a quality replacement for $1000

You put quite a bit into this car over time as well! Glad you recovered your initial investment.

Another excellent data point. Thanks. Are you going to stick around checking in here every now and then or are you going to become a completely ex-SHOer?

So much for having to wait a long time for a buyer!
I love that colour of red on the Gen III SHOs. Very handsome car, even with a missing rocker panel. I think you can buy them new now or at least graft in the one from the Gen I & Gen II.

I'll check in once in a while.
I still check in at turbotbird.com occasionally and I disposed of that car in late '07.

I really enjoyed this car and over all it treated me quite well. I bought it on the advice that they require a lot of maintenance, but I would say it's been less work than I thought it would be. Cam welding wasn't a ton of fun, and the torque converter replacement caused me a lot of stress (and ended up costing quite a bit as well), but considering the purchase price and use I got out of it I never really had any negative feelings about the car.

I had visions of spending some money on the body and bringing the shine back for a few years, but once I found the rocker panel condition I largely gave up on that idea and shifted to just keeping it reliable mechanically.

The replacement vehicle (don't ask) should be good for several years. Maybe by then I can repeat the SHO process, but with a half worn out (usually about the time i can afford a "cool" car) twin turbo v6 :D

Glad to hear you will still be checking by.

I never really thought of the car as a high upkeep machine. Welding the cam sprockets was a pain, but, IIRC, only a $600 affair. Otherwise the car has been just normal wear and upkeep. Though I do now have a dead ABS pump and since no new ones are available any more and I have been told the used ones from wreckers are not very reliable, I am not sure what I am going to do about that. Though the car dropped out of being a daily driver getting toward two years ago now, it gave me great service when in full time use, with over 200k on the clock since I picked it up in '99 and and no real problems at all. The full body restoration back in 2010 was costly, but I think worth it to save a rather unique machine. Off to the car show with her this weekend, actually. :)

Actually, it was St. Louis SHO's restoration i was thinking about when I wrote that. Yours was excellent too - he went the big labor route vs the big bill route.

:) I am always happy to have someone else do the labour if they do it well. And paying for good work is never a problem. Its paying for bad work that is the hassle.

There's chum in the water boys!
Mr. President, if you'll be parting your car out, please let us know.

Major engine problem being what exactly? I doubt there are any non-welded, -loctited, or -pinned G3 shos out there anymore, but maybe a few. You had cam welds done correct?

cams not welded

was trin to see if it was minor problems but after putting 4 new coil packs on the back and all new plugs, learned that there is compression issues on the back bank, car runs but very poorly body has some rust in the usual spots, from what I've read, don't think I'm gonna mess with repairing it.
