I live in St Louis, and will not be able to attend the big one. I'd really like to meet some of you guys in person. Lemme know if there is anything like this that happens.

I know this. However, i cannot afford to spend some cash on hotels, gas, and events. Otherwise, i wouldnt be posting in this thread :nut:
So...you waitin' for your town's mayor to buy a SHO and have a parade in your town? How close is a meet going to need to be?

... I can afford to drive up there... And i could afford to pay for food/random stuff. But i cannot afford to pay for housing too... With the event Tim is trying to host, i could drive down there and party plus drive back home in the same day... I cant do that with the national SHO convention.

A 1 day Convention? There is no such thing.

True. However, who said i was going to stay @ the OK meet for more than a day ? All i am saying is, if we were to have a meet in OK, STL, KC, Des Moines, even Omaha?/Lincoln, i could afford to drive up in the morning, party all day long, and drive home. It would not be cost effective to do that for the national convention when a one way trip up there is a good 12-15 hours minimum.

Anything short of the real SHO convention, is just pretend. Local/regional meets are OK and can be fun, but there's still nothing quite like the real thing. You'll never get all the same people, all the great cars, and all the fantastic times together at any other event.

It's unfortunate that every year, so many people can't seem to save up a few bucks to go. They happen in mid-July every year, and putting $20/week away for a 1-week convention/vacation a year in advance can make for a heck of a fun time.

As Chris said, there are some good local/regional events around the country, try to make some, but the convention is the real deal! You can do one or two days. You can stay at a less expensive hotel, or even camp out!

Kalamazoo isn't that far from St. Louis, it is about a 6-7 hour drive? (416 miles by google maps). For someone that can party all day, just plan one night at a budget motel and you can get part of two days. I recommend Monday and Tuesday since watching the cars arrive is a lot of fun, and the SHOw on Tuesday is great. Or do Tues/Wed, you don't have to pay to drive at the Grattan event, but it is great to watch (it is a bit more than an hour farthur north though!).

Anyway, if you can't make it, then just keep an eye on the clubs section here, and also check out the SHOclub.com events listings where we try to compile everything we learn about on one page.

Hope you make one soon.

Well, I never said anything about 'hosting' an event, just putting a track day together, and please don't think of this as something to do in lieu of going to the Nat Con, as there is not replacement for that. The time and energy that Don and family put into the Convention is something that I could never manage, and their tireless efforts show, as every convention I have attended were simply amazing and very memorable events. If money is the only issue, collect some alum cans, stop drinking (pop and beer), eat out less, nix unneccessary trips. Those measures taken for the next 6 weeks will more than pay for the expense on the Kalamazoo Convention (fuel/registration), and room with someone a night or two (or sleep in your SHO, the back seat can be made very comfortable). You simply will not regret going to a National Convention.

 *I wanted to state why I cannot attend the "Real" Convention. I already used my Vacation time, and Tim said something about a track day, which is perfect for my schedule! Believe me, I can afford to go, but do not have the time :thumb: So I have to say this: :stupid:

While I can appreciate the sentiment of saving $$$, I applaud any of them for realizing their limitations and trying to work something else out. I had plenty of money saved up for the convention, but changed jobs and had to move. Between paying for 2 houses and double everything for 2 months, I've spent over $4,300 for this situation so far. Prioritize- and as much as the convention would be the best time ever, It's not #1 for me right now. I can't stand when people call out people for not having $$$ for stuff when they don't know their entire situation...

Your local chapter should have meets quite frequently- we have plenty of fun at ours... Granted, it's not the national convention, but oh well- it'll do for me this year I guess. I don't want to pop-in for a show unpaid or anything...
