I am replacing all of this tomorrow morning:

2 o2 sensors
Cam position sensor
plugs and wires

I have the intake gasket, but didnt get the valve cover gaskets as I wont be cracking those open till I get ahold of some shims. Is there anything I should look out for? is the cam sensor pretty straightforward to put in? Should I bother cleaning the inside of the intake when I have it off? Anything else I should look out for?

Also, what is the correct gap on the spark plugs? thanks for any help.

1. Spray some penetrant oil on those O2 sensors yesterday :p

2. Remove the intake for installing plugs and wires

3. And finally, yes, clean the intake while it's off. Its very easy, so you might as well.

When I first took the intake off my SHO it had 97k on her. Intake had never been cleaned. Post cleaning it I could actually feel a difference in throttle response thumb

The o2 seonsors were out of the car about a year and a half ago, when I had my PP Y-Pipe installed. so I am not worried about getting them out.

As for cleaning the intake, what should I use to clean it out? I have a couple of cans of engine cleaner laying around. would that be ok to use?

Probably be fine.

I used 2 cans of Gunk engine bright cleaner. Works excellent, and doesnt stink quite as bad. :D

I opted to tear the intake assembly all the way down to every individual part. EVERYTHING got sprayed, scrubbed, rinsed, and dried. It's amaizing how much crap build up in there eek!

If you do disassemble the intake, be very careful with the large rubber boots that hold the snakes to the butterfly valve assemblies. They can become pretty brittle with age.

I would not use an external engine cleaner on the internals of the intake manifold. Use an intake or carb cleaner (even the $2 a can stuff from AutoZone or O'Reilly) to clean the internals. I can send you my valve gapping procedure that also describes the removal and installation of the intake and valve covers if you provide an email address.

When me and my friend just cleaned his 89's intake we got away with using just 1 can of Berryman's B12. Many people say how they use multiple cans of it and i can't see how, the Berryman's eats away the buildup very easily!
