Also, when was the last you spoke with them?

Things have changed a lot in the last 5-6 years and they keep on changing!

A custom thickness gasket does not sound too difficult as they would already have the patterns, just thicker.

I talked to them a few months ago. The rep sounded annoyed with the policy as it caused some issues. Someone paid for some custom gaskets to be made and paid for the tooling, only to find out that they didn't own the tooling. They had one ****** off customer.

Matt, are the head gaskets that SHO Source is working on going to be MLS or composition?
Thanks

We would be trying to go as close to stock as possible.

Custom thickness is still custom...I do agree, not as hard.

My Mercedes,they hadn't produced a gasket until I asked them too.....and I wasn't charged a tooling cost.

They can also custom make any intake/water pump/any gasket, not just head gaskets.

Maybe you might want to call them again and ask....actually send in a 3.2 head gasket for them to inspect and give u a quote on making. I'll bet $$$ they will say "were gonna go ahead and make it for you this time without a tooling charge because we see a market for it"

I can't explain the Mercedes then.

I was very direct on the head gaskets and they said it would run that price. They didn't give me any other options. They actually said they do not see much of a market for an engine of only 3 years.

The other issue for us as a business was that we would not have any rights or control of the head gaskets. So we would do all the work and anyone can come order them. This doesn't work out for us or even you the customers because we would have to up charge the gaskets when you can get them cheaper. This is a loose-loose position. If we could have controlled the tooling and got a better price then we would of had them made.

Would you buy them directly from me??

I'm willing to buy a 3.2 HG and send it in.....esp if I'll get exclusive sales rights.

Sure you don't want to try what I've suggested?

I was also told that there would be a "tooling fee"

Would I, if you had the rights. Cometic would not grant any rights. They wanted to control them. If they would give us rights this would of been a done deal.

I did try what you suggested but we need the rights. I can try again.

So how do you think they actually make them? Water jet, laser, punch press? The multi layered gaskets are probably all cut as one piece I would assume.

Another wrinkle is you would want a properly made gasket to send in. The DNJ's are about the only thing floating around out there and the knock on them is they were cut improperly around the water passage holes. I haven't personally done a side by side, but that is the info I have read more than once around here.

Just like everything else, the gaskets are made on CNC machines I'd think.....

nevermind.

You might be the only vendor who sells SHO parts but your business model should bring you business, not exclusive rights.

All "exclusive" rights do is lead to is small aftermarket support full of crooks.....

All we have to do is look at ShoShop to see the truth in that.....

Not trying to knock you but there's no reason to be greedy IMO

Anyone have a new Fel Pro 3.2 gasket I can buy to have Cometic copy it?

Not trying to be greedy. If we spend $5k on tooling to make the gaskets but everyone can got to Cometic for the same price then no one will go through us and we loose out on $5k. Sorry not a good business model. Any business can not afford to just spend money and not get an investment back.

If they do not sell to us at a lower price (Which usually goes with the exclusive rights) then we would mark them up over the everyday price just to make a profit and anyone who buys from us has to buy at a higher price. A loose for the customer.

We are not trying to be greedy, we just need to get money back if we layout $5k. If that is being greedy then start a business and just give away your cash.
