I see that head gaskets are getting tough to find for some....

Call Cometic. They will custom make ANY gasket and have no minimum order.

If you have an engine that requires a head gasket,no matter how rare or obscure the application,Cometic has you covered!!

How much are we talking about for a small run? With CAD and various cutting machines the cost must have come down some???

You can find fel pro 3.0 here and there. The 3.2 are incredibly difficult and if you need one due to failure --with no time to wait-- unless you use DNJ, you are SOL

You DO NOT have to pay for the tooling.

At least I haven't yet and I've had 4-5 sets of custom HG's made.

Anyone have specs on the 3.2 HG stored away somewhere? Thickness, composition etc? I assume MLS but it's been a while since I examined one.

Cometic says they can change the bore size so wouldn't you just have to provide a 3.0 HG and they would be able to make both 3.0 and 3.2 HG's?

I know in the GM turbo crowd not everyone has had best of luck with Cometic but I believe that is partially due to the deck not being smooth enough.

I would not assume that out of hand. Maybe that's why the dnj's passage holes don't line up correctly. Years ago I would have had both in the garage and could line them up but all my extra hg's are gone.

Poking around it looks like alot of people are complaining that they require alot more finishing on both the head and block to get it to seal properly.

Yea, I would think that the heads would be better off with the sealing capabilities that are required over the block but I have never seen the deck surface or head surface of these engines.

They are not all that different from any other setup but most people just clean the surface up, slap a gasket in there and reassemble unless they think it needs to get a really small milling to get flush. Even after that you have to polish the surface to get the cometics to seal. At least that's what i've read in posts I've pulled up on other forums with a quick google search. Still an option..

When I talked to them it was around $4-5k in tooling. They would also own the tooling and not allow you to own it. This is the same position as Celvite and why there are no more main bearings.

Even with CAD and water jet there is a lot of measuring, CAD work and verification.

Maybe they owned the tooling already for your custom gaskets?

I want to be proven wrong but that was based on the conversations I had with them.

I had them do gaskets for my e55 when we ported the heads(I was close to just using factory MB gaskets since they were a known quantity),it ended up being a "custom" gasket since it wasn't in there database.

I was also told I "might" have to pay a tooling fee. I had to send them in a good HG(I just sent them a factory MB gasket)

I want to say I paid around $300ish a gasket(you ought to see the price on MB gaskets)but it's been a while back.....I didn't pay a tooling fee though.

On my Buicks,I've called and ordered custom thickness gaskets several times for myself and friends....Cometic makes Buick v6 HG's already but we weren't buying shelf stocked parts......

They will also custom cut ANY gasket, they just need one to copy.

Also, when was the last you spoke with them?

Things have changed a lot in the last 5-6 years and they keep on changing!
