I have a 96' SHO that has cost me a small fortune in recent repairs ($400.00 tune up, $155.00 coil, $200.00 tires and oil change). I really like the car, but come on this stuff is getting ridiculous. The car has 110k on it and I only paid $3500 for it in July. I used to race Mustangs, so I know about mechanics and power adders. What I need to know is what is available for the Yamaha V-8 cars? Any suggestions will help, I am no "Ricky Racer" kid who does street racing (anymore...lol). If you give a suggestion please tell me if the product has merit or if it's just something you heard about.

Thanks for any imput.

In the simplest terms, not much. Best bet is to start with the following, in this order:

1. Cam welding
2. Nitrous

Welcome to the forum!

You should also check out http://www.v8sho.com Lots of great information there about just about any mod anyone could ever think of for these cars.

yea, i dont own the v8 variety, once thing even i know you must do. have the cams welded. all the upgrades in the world wont help once your sho goes sho-boom :salute: , but once you have that done, the engine will be pretty solid and can safely handle some abuse, then i would be 100% positive everything is perfect on it, then go for a nice big shot of the giggle juice

Your best bet for performance mods is to sell your SHO and go back to racing mustangs. Otherwise, enjoy!

Do whatever you can to avoid heatsoak. I coated my intake runners and surge tank with a ceramic coating similar to jet-hot. That made the car run a lot better in the hot summer months.

Doug Lewis's programmed X-Calibrator is worth getting.

Then I'd go with a UDP (not the SHO Shop pulleys which don't fit).

Then weight reduction and nitrous.

Exhaust and intake mods haven't made much of a difference. Do the exhaust for the sound only. And stay away from cone filters under the hood.

So tell me how one puts nitrous oxide into a tempermental 10:1 compression motor without welding the heads?

Thanks

What type of pulleys ? I don't believe I am familiar with VDP pulleys. Are there any aftermarket exhaust kits? I think the motor breathes well being stock, but if there's a good system out there I am eager to hear about it.

Thanks

Just get the jetting and fuel right. A 75 shot can be done on the V8 cars very easily and safely. We've done as much as a 125 shot with fatter injectors.

Don't know why you call the motor tempermental, once the cams are welded it's one of the toughest motors out there. Of course those who decide not to weld the cams are what keep us in business! :thumb:

Why do you have to weld the heads??
By the way, for the money, giggle juice is a good choice, over a 125 shot though and it certainly would be advisable to not only have Dougs tuning but also invest in some injectors along with the intake mod it will take to get them to fit and a fuel pump big enough to supply them. All this though and for the same money you could put a 'Stang into the 11's, but not sure you would get the same looks when you opened the hood.

Where did you find a supercharger ?

I wasn't aware they made a specific supercharger for the V-8s. Could you tell me what boost level/price andmods needed to supercharge the engine.

Thanks,

Mine was a prototype produced by Geoff Knight of Boosthead.com in SOuth Miami. I was hooked up with him from Brad Hogue who also was trying to get SHOShop to put a supercharger on his without success. I personally think he had me go to Geoff to test him out. The system I got back was very prototype and I am still finishing it even today. Before I got back from Miami it shed a belt while Doug was driving it in Atlanta. I ended up redoing the the entire drive shaft, pulley's and mounting system for the blower itself. I have also redesigned the intake plumming and overpressure (blow-off) valve. A kit was designed based on my early prototype but to the best of my knowledge only one is mounted on a SHO but I do not know if it is running at this date. Originally the car had no mods other then a Vortech 12:1 FMU in the fuel line. Of course at that time I was only pushing 6 psi. Since them I have modified my fuel system by swapping to a 255lpm HiFlo/HiPress fuel pump and modified my intake to fit the 36# fuel injectors. None of that would have worked if Doug had not of made the ECU recognized the changes with the SCT Tuner. I added the PWR liquid to air intercooler that I had modified to fit in the engine bay as close to the TB to limit heat soak. The pump and reservior for the IC are in the trunk with the transmission cooler for a PowerStrokes transmission behind the lower grill as the liquids radiator. Thats about it for direct mods other then the mixture gauges and boost gauge on the A-piller.

Thanks for the info, since it is a prototype/experimental the cost must be high?
