...debating whether or not to do the rust repair (both rockers and floor sections) on my V8 wagon. It wont
pass PA inspection (tried 3 garages!). I love the car (perfect for lugging parts to Ford Nationals at Carlisle) and was wondering just how alone it is in the SHO community. I saw another silver one at Carlisle a few years
back (had the gen3 curly spoiler on the roof!) and was wondering how many more have been converted AND are still on the road.
cheers,
dan

I might have seen 1 on here over the last year or two. There were only a few and they've been falling by the wayside. You could always swap the good parts into another wagon. If you don't need fancy get the welder out.

I believe there was one at the Plan B this past summer. I didn't get any pics of it but maybe @Michelle can post some.

Same problem here..my 97 sho was pretty much stripped and disassembled years ago to attempt my rust repair.
Rockers inner and outer, and a good amount of structural frame that I've realized just isn't worth finishing.

I've since bought a 16 sho and hate to get rid of the gen 3. The engine runs very strong and I've got more parts and money tied up with it than I'd like to admit.
Either I junk it, or ideally find a new home for the engine. Maybe a gen 4 or wagon, or go full truckla and chop a bed into one

I don't think that Ford ever made an SHO wagon. Correct me if I'm wrong but someone must've built that. Cool as **** though, and I always thought it should've been factory built for sure.

If the fix-it rules are anything like they are in my territory, they don't want to see any rivets or screws in floor fixes. Other than that, I think you can use adhesives as well as welding; and adhesives do a nicer job as far as looks go in a garage inspection.

The inner rocker panel surface is easy to duplicate and the outer panel can be fashioned from a flat sheet of body metal. The outers may still be available to buy, but they are so easy to fabricate that it is not worth it. You can buy body metal at a UAP store in 3 X 8 foot sheets. They roll it up so it can be put in your trunk.

Just start with a clean underbody following a pressure wash and the bond will be great. If there is any doubt about the look, finish off any gaps in floor dimples with body fill. Sand it down and paint, if necessary.

The nice thing about body work is you can use your car while you are doing the various parts of the job.
Not nice to do in the cold weather, though, so the inspection and new plates may have to wait.

Well I found "factory" style rocker panels on Ebay and I ordered them
so I'm now committed to do what it takes to keep it on the road. I bought
the car 12 years ago from fellow near Harrisburg PA (found it on craigslist)
who had the conversion done. Receipts show he paid about $1500 for the
transplant and welding of the cams. Tranny was weak when I bought it and
I picked up a low mileage cam failure silver car out of OHio as a tranny
donor. No problems since! The front clip from that parts car also ended
up on the wagon. Will be at Carlisle again in June space GA4 most likely.

Unfortunately I don’t have a wagon. I’ve looked at a couple, both in Detroit area, but both were a no go. I have had three gen one cars and just missed number four. Looking for a used gen four right now. I will stop by sometime when I’m in your neighborhood. I remember right, there was a Ranger (or something) Up on jack stands maybe near by. Also saw a nice white SVT Mustang close by!
take care. There are 3 gen one police grills on Pittsburgh Craigslist!

Black 01 Ranger is part of the fleet as is the white SVO Mustang. Got the
wagon back from the body shop and they really did a nice job on the
rockers. will look for the police grilles...thanks for the tip.
